The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting will be honored at the "Journalism Matters" 27th Annual National Press Foundation Awards Dinner on February 16, 2010 at the Hilton Washington Hotel in Washington, D.C. The pre-dinner reception will begin at 6:30pm, followed by dinner at 7:30pm and a post-ceremony reception at 9:30pm.

The winners of the 2010 World Press Photo Contest were announced February 12 in Amsterdam. Pulitzer Center journalist Marco Vernaschi won first prize for General News in the Stories category for his work on narco trafficking in Guinea Bissau. Vernaschi's photographs will be featured in a traveling exhibition visited by over two million people in 45 countries. The contest is recognized as the world's most prestigious annual press photography competition.

Marco Vernaschi has been named a finalist for the International Center of Photography's Infinity Award in Photojournalism for his 2009 work on cocaine trafficking in West Africa. He was nominated by Karen Irvine of the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago.

The ICP's Infinity Awards were inaugurated in 1984 to bring public attention to outstanding achievements in photography by honoring individuals with distinguished careers in the field and by identifying future luminaries. The program is well known as the most prestigious photographic awards ceremony in the world!

It is a great honor to present the winners of anthropographia Awards 2010. Anthropographia's aim is to create new spaces for photojournalism; new spaces that encourage the promotion of human rights, expose social injustice and underline the multiple realities of our current world.

The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting has been awarded the 2009 Excellence in Online Journalism Award from the National Press Foundation.

Sean Gallagher's "China's Growing Sands" received an honorable mention in the competition for the Earth Journalism Awards, which honor media providing new insight into climate change issues. Nearly 900 journalists, bloggers and young creatives from 148 countries registered to send in their best climate change reports from 2009 in the lead up to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen next month. "China's Growing Sands" will be shown along with the main award winners in Copenhagen.

Pulitzer Center supported journalist Marco Vernaschi has been awarded the top prize in the lens culture International Exposure Awards for his in-depth examination of illegal activity inside Guinea Bissau. Vernaschi's portfolio was selected among more than 6,000 submissions from photographers in 48 countries.

Pulitzer Center's multimedia website on the human face of HIV/AIDS in Jamaica has won an Emmy for new approaches to news and documentary programming, in the arts, lifestyle and culture category, announced Sept 21, at the 30th annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards at the Lincoln Center's Rose Theater in New York City.

Pulitzer Center grantee Meredith May receives an award from the Society of Professional Journalists for her work on the project "Olga's Girls," which tells the story of indentured servants in Nepal.

Loretta Tofani was awarded $2,000 by a five judge panel at the Daniel Pearl Award for Outstanding International Investigative Reporting for her "American Imports, Chinese Deaths" reporting project. Formerly called the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) Award, the honor was renamed this year after Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter murdered in 2002 by Pakistani militants. Two teams of journalists were awarded $10,000 each and the title of the 2008 Daniel Pearl Award.

The Online News Association announced the 2009 finalists for their Online Journalism Awards. The Women.Children.Crisis Pulitzer Gateway is a finalist in the category of Multimedia Feature Presentation (small site).
