Detours, a new podcast by Pulitzer Center grantees Jason Motlagh and William Wheeler, has launched its inaugural episode featuring an interview with Scott Anderson, grantee and author of The New York Times Magazine's special "Fractured Lands" issue. Supported with a grant from the Pulitzer Center, Detours is a free-ranging weekly podcast that explores the working lives of multimedia storytellers and the issues that engage them around the world. The podcast features a diverse mix of international journalists, photographers, filmmakers, fixers, and more. Some guests will be well known, while others are rising stars in the field, but all will share how they got to where they are, what makes them tick, and how they operate in the field, while reflecting on the impact their work is having on both audiences and their own lives.

In the first episode, Scott Anderson talks about the personal toll of reporting on conflict for many years. “I think I’m done with war, and it’s not just a safety-danger thing," he said. "It’s kind of a moral exhaustion thing."
