'The End of AIDS: Far From Over' Nominated for a News and Documentary Emmy Award

"The End of AIDS: Far From Over," a Pulitzer Center-supported series for PBS NewsHour, was nominated for an Emmy award in the Outstanding Science, Medical or Environmental Report category alongside four other reports appearing in AMHQ and 60 Minutes. 

The series took grantees William Brangham and producer-reporter Jason Kane to the American South, Nigeria, and Russia to uncover the barriers faced in ending AIDS. 

In addition to "Far From Over," the Pulitzer Center has supported award-winning projects in the past to raise awareness about and paint a nuanced portrait of HIV/AIDS. In 2017, a PBS NewsHour series by Brangham, Kane, and Science staff writer Jon Cohen, "The End of AIDS?" won the 38th annual Emmy for Outstanding Science, Medical and Environmental Reporting. In 2009, the Pulitzer Center won the Emmy for livehopelove.com, a multimedia online documentary centered on the work of poet Kwame Dawes.

“The clear, transparent, and factual reporting provided by these journalists and documentarians is paramount to keeping our nation and its citizens informed,” said Adam Sharp, President and CEO of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The 40th News & Documentary Emmy Awards will be presented on Tuesday, September 24th, 2019, at a ceremony at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in New York City.
