"Finding Home," a multimedia project focused on Syrian refugees, has won the 75th annual Pictures of the Year International competition. Winning in the online feature story visual editing category, this year-long project follows three refugee families who have recently given birth and follows their journeys as they navigate both raising a newborn and life as refugees in Europe.
Supported by Pulitzer Center, TIME staff video journalist Francesca Trianni, Africa bureau chief Aryn Baker and award-winning photojournalist Lynsey Addario share the lives of these refugees through interviews, video, and images.
"Heln's First Year" follows the birth of Heln in a hospital near a refugee camp in Thessaloniki, Greece. Her parents are refugees who fled the conflict in Syria. The multimedia piece was created by overlaying photos and videos with text messages based on texts, voice mails and in person interviews. This unique project shows the daily difficult choices and uncertainties facing refugees.
