Paula Bronstein is an award-winning photojournalist who has reported on the human side of war for over three decades. As a Pulitzer Center grantee, she reported on the impacts the war in Afghanistan had on the daily lives of women and children in the country beginning in 2001. Bronstein documented how unending violence led to a record number of Afghan war widows and wounded civilians

Her newest Pulitzer Center-sponsored project documents the "collateral damage," or "silent victims," of the ongoing war in Ukraine. Bronstein highlights the plight elderly Ukranian people face amidst their 5-year-long war with Russia, which has already claimed 13,000 lives.

With nearly a third of the country's humanitarian assistance going towards helping citizens over 60 years old, Ukraine's elderly bear the brunt of the country's humanitarian crisis. As seniors remain stuck in a war-torn region lacking livable conditions and economic stability, the aging population remains the most vulnerable.
