This April, two Pulitzer Center student fellow alums were honored by the International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF). Pat Nabong was named an IWMF Gwen Ifill Fellow, and Neeta Satam was awarded an IWMF Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice in the Americas grant.

Pat Nabong is a graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. Now a visual journalist based in Chicago, she reported from the Philippines as a Pulitzer Center student fellow in 2017. Nabong has also reported from Singapore, Japan, and the United States. As a fellow in the Gwen Ifill Mentorship Program, Nabong will learn from an expert leadership team and be paired with senior media mentors to guide and support her development as a journalist. The Gwen Ifill Mentorship Program is a prestigious initiative to address the lack of diversity and women in leadership across newsrooms in the United States.

Neeta Satam is an India-born freelance photographer based in the United States, and a graduate of the Missouri School of Journalism. Also an environmental scientist by training, Satam reported on the floating islands of Manipur in India as a Pulitzer Center student fellow in 2017. As an 2019 IWMF Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice in the Americas grantee, Satam will report on education, contraception, and abortion in Argentina.

The mission of IWMF is "to unleash the power of female journalists to transform the global news media". They provide safety training, byline opportunities, and emergency support for female journalists and photographers around the world.
