Pulitzer Center grantee Lisa Armstrong won an Arlene Eisenberg Article Award, honoring articles that make a difference, from the American Society of Journalists and Authors for her article, "Fighting Back." Since a massive earthquake hit Haiti in 2010, cramped conditions in displacement camps have fostered unprecedented levels of gender-based violence, but women are fighting back to change this reality. Armstrong's article, published in Essence magazine in January 2011, chronicled the struggle of Haitian women to demand justice and rebuild their lives after being raped.
