The Pulitzer Center is delighted to announce that as of July 1 Marvin Kalb joins us as an in-residence senior advisor.

Marvin’s extraordinary career spans three decades of award-winning reporting and commentary for CBS and NBC, including a turn as host of Meet the Press. For the past 25 years, he has served as founding director and Senior Fellow of the Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. He also is the Edward R. Murrow Professor (Emeritus) at Harvard.

Marvin will soon start the 20th season of The Kalb Report, a series of radio/tv forums on ethics and excellence in journalism. The series is produced jointly by the National Press Club, The George Washington University, the Shorenstein Center at Harvard, the University of Maryland University College (UMUC), and the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland. The series is underwritten by a grant from Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation.

Marvin also keeps his hand in news analysis with commentary for many news organizations, including NPR and Fox News and, most recently, as a guest scholar at the Brookings Institution. He is also a prolific author, having just finished his 13th book, “The Road to War: Presidential Commitments Honored and Betrayed” (Brookings 2013), a timely and critical examination of the extraordinary war-making powers we give to the president.

“We are so honored to have Marvin Kalb join our team,” said Pulitzer Center Executive Director Jon Sawyer. “He is a master of journalism platforms old and new, and in his work as founding director of the Shorenstein Center at Harvard pioneered the collaborative approach to journalism excellence that has been a hallmark of our own approach.”

As an in-residence senior advisor Marvin will be an invaluable resource for Pulitzer Center staff and journalists. He will also help in the Center’s events and educational outreach and as a conduit of ideas for new reporting projects and initiatives.

"The honor is all mine,” Marvin said. “To be associated with the Pulitzer Center, sharing new ideas about the problems facing contemporary journalism with Jon and his exceptional staff, is at this stage of my life and career an exciting challenge, and I hope I can help the Center. I shall do my very best.”
