WBEZ Convenes Expert Panel to Answer Vaccine Questions From Chicago’s Communities of Color

Araceli Gómez-Aldana, WBEZ’s weekend anchor, moderated a discussion on Thursday, January 21, 2021, in which a panel of health experts answered common questions about the COVID-19 vaccines. The event was tailored to Chicago’s communities of color, which have most acutely felt the repercussions of the pandemic.

The discussion was part of WBEZ’s coverage of COVID-19 and racial equity, a project supported by the Pulitzer Center.

“The pandemic has disproportionately hurt Chicago’s Black and Latino communities, so our job is to get you factual, verified information about the vaccines and to ensure that vaccine resources get to communities that were the hardest hit by the pandemic,” Gómez-Aldana said.

Community partners for the event included Belmont-Cragin United, the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, the Mexican Consulate General in Chicago, and Esperanza Health Centers.
