Climate Change in the Arctic [15 minute lesson]

Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer, but students may have been noticing extreme weather upsetting the seasons all year long...and nowhere are the impacts of climate change more apparent than in the Arctic!

This lesson plan introduces students to Eli Kintisch's THAW series of documentary shorts explaining how the Arctic ecosystem is transforming in easy to understand, graphic terms. Students are then guided in a brief discussion of the use of scientific facts in reporting.

Youth Activists and the Media: Reporting on Gun Violence [Free Workshop]

Youth activists from diverse communities across the country will share their experiences as leaders in the movement against gun violence and will guide an interactive dialogue on media representation. What stories are being told and which ones go under-reported? How can the media and youth activists work together? What should journalism about gun violence look like? This workshop will create a space for journalists and youth to explore these urgent questions together.
