Parkland High School is one of several Forsyth County schools that will host Pulitzer Center grantee Tomas van Houtryve this week, kicking off NewsArts, as the Winston-Salem Journal reports. This is Parkland High’s first school-wide exploration of journalistic concepts and presentation facilitated engagement with students regarding photography and storytelling.

“I thought it was really cool and really eye-opening,” said junior Kalila Roche. “The journalism bug kind of bit me.”

Also, as a part of the NewsArts initiative, the Pulitzer center has created a partnership between the organization and the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA), whose “Dispatches” exhibit features two of van Houtryve’s projects. The exhibit, running through Feb. 19, features 77 works by 29 artists and news photographers revolving around the themes of environment, surveillance, elections, activism and borders.
