Pulitzer Center grantee and documentary and street journalist Xyza Bacani was recognized by the Alexia Foundation's Judges Special Recognition Award for her work, "My Mother's Footsteps"—the story of the millions of migrant mothers and the children they left behind.

Bacani's project for the Pulitzer Center, Singapore's Runaways, opens up the world of hundreds of distressed migrant workers of different nationalities waiting for their cases to be heard and hoping to move on. These people are victims of human labor trafficking, child labor, and emotional, psychological and physical abuses, hidden behind a shelter in Singapore.

Bacani is a Filipina photographer. Having worked as a domestic worker for almost a decade, her projects focus on the issues of migrant workers.
