Image by Steve Elfers. United States, 2015.

"Pumped Dry" is a multi-media project that examines the effects of rapidly depleting groundwater reserves around the world by focusing on the United States, Peru, India and Morocco. Through photos, video, interactive maps, startling statistics, and rich interviews, the project details the challenges and potential solutions that a diversity of nations are navigating in the face of a growing crisis.

In this lesson, students will study the project’s summary and discuss potential dangers and solutions that result from a quickly vanishing supply of groundwater. Through exploration of the the project’s resources, students will also practice summarizing and analyze how reduced groundwater in other countries could directly impact their own communities.
