South Dakota State University

South Dakota State University is South Dakota’s largest university, with enrollment totaling 12,725 during the 2011-2012 academic year. Offering 175 fields of study, the University fosters hands-on research projects with nationally respected professors, internships that bring coursework to life, and over 200 student organizations on campus. As a land-grant university, SDSU has always served South Dakota. The University continues to build on that tradition today by developing responsible global leaders and sending 95 percent of the undergraduate student body onto jobs, graduate school, or other workplace opportunities such as internships and fellowships.

SDSU offers a vigorous media studies program with its Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. The program blends faculty, philosophy, and technology to prepare students for a career in media and related fields. The undergraduate program aims to educate the next generation of media professionals — including journalists, strategic communicators, teachers and researchers. To fulfill the land-grant university mission, the program works closely with journalism and advertising professionals, scholastic journalism, and Native American communities. The Department's graduate program strives to advance mass communication's body of knowledge through research, analysis and application. In March 2012, the Department completed the construction of the Yeager Media Center (YMC), an HD television production facility that includes an updated studio space, control room with state-of-the-art HD production equipment, an office for full-time YMC staff, and a renovated lobby area.

Pulitzer Center grantee and veteran journalist Reese Erlich launches the SDSU-Pulitzer Center Campus Consortium partnership with his September 2012 visit exploring the "Arab Spring from Syria to Egypt and Gaza."
