Spelman College

Founded in 1881, Spelman College is a highly selective, liberal arts college widely recognized as the global leader in the education of women of African descent. Located in Atlanta, the College’s picturesque campus is home to 2,100 students.

Outstanding alumnae include Children’s Defense Fund Founder Marian Wright Edelman; Sam’s Club CEO Rosalind Brewer, Broadway producer Alia Jones, former Acting Surgeon General and Spelman’s first alumna President Audrey Forbes Manley, Harvard professor Evelynn Hammonds, author Pearl Cleage and actress LaTanya Richardson Jackson.

Spelman awards bachelor’s degrees in 28 areas of study. Popular undergraduate majors include biology, chemistry, English, political science and psychology. The College is dedicated to academic excellence in the liberal arts and sciences and the intellectual, creative, ethical and leadership development of its students.

There are several interdisciplinary centers housed on campus that support the institution’s mission of academic excellence: Gordon-Zeto Center for Global Education, the Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement, Teaching Resource and Research Center, WISDOM (Women in Spiritual Discernment of Ministry) Center, and the Women’s Research and Resource Center.
