Meet the Journalist: Mark Hoffman

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel photojournalist Mark Hoffman talks about reporting on the work being done by Tarif Bakdash, a Syrian-born pediatric neurologist. Bakdash is helping some of the citizens from his former homeland at the Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan, about 15 miles from the Syrian border.

Bakdash lead a medical mission from Milwaukee to the Zaatari refugee camp that is home to about 80,000 Syrians who have fled the five-year-old civil war in their country. Bakdash, now 51, grew up in Syria and worked at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and the Medical College of Wisconsin. He recently quit his position there so he could find a job that would allow him more time off for relief work.
