Samuel Loewenberg on the Dadaab Refugee Camps in Kenya

Pulitzer Center grantee Samuel Loewenberg talks about the challenges that refugees escaping famine in Somalia face as they cross the border into Kenya. The Dadaab refugee camps in Kenya are the largest in the world, but they are filled to capacity and are no longer able to take in newcomers. The thousands who arrive each month have scattered around the outskirts of the camp, resulting in unsanitary conditions and the outbreak of infectious diseases such as cholera. Loewenberg's report in Dadaab is a part of his on-going project, "The Not-Inevitable Crisis: Why 9 Million Are Hungry in East Africa."
