The award-winning film, "The Abominable Crime" is having its New York premiere at the city's week-long Documentary Festival. Director and Pulitzer Center grantee Micah Fink's film reveals the violent homophobia in Jamaican culture. The film screens on Friday, Nov. 15, at 4:45 pm in the IFC Center.

The film follows Maurice Tomlinson, a leading human rights activist, who must cope to life after being forcibly outed, and Simone Edwards, a lesbian-identified Jamaican and single mother, who must find a way to protect herself and her daughter after surviving an anti-gay shooting.

These intimate first-person narratives show the dangers and discrimination gay and lesbian people are faced with in Jamaica, and reveal the psychological and social impacts of adapting to life after surviving in a homeland that rejects your way of living.
