Afropop Airs 'The Abominable Crime'

Micah Fink's documentary about the threats and discrimination associated with being gay within a homophobic culture, The Abominable Crime, will air February 16 on Season 7 of AfroPoP: The Ultimate Cultural Exchange.

Filmmaker Micah Fink and human rights lawyer Maurice Tomlison, whose story is told in the film, will share their thoughts on homophobia in Jamaica and the relation to HIV rates after the screening. The Abominable Crime is a Pulitzer Center-supported award-winning documentary that explores the culture of homophobia in Jamaica through the eyes of gay Jamaicans who are forced to choose between their homeland and their lives after their sexual orientations are exposed.

AfroPoP: The Ultimate Cultural Exchange AfroPoP is a US-based public television show featuring independent documentaries and short films about life, art, and culture from the contemporary African Diaspora. The African Diaspora includes Africa, the Caribbean, Canada, South America, Europe, the US, and anywhere people of African descent have made a significant contribution to the culture. AfroPoP is the only series on US public television that focuses solely on stories from the African Diaspora.

On January 20, Season 7 of Afropop: The Ultimate Cultural Exchange premieres on the World Channel.
