Roger Thurow, journalist, author, Pulitzer Center grantee and senior fellow at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, speaks at the 2016 Friends of Turkana Fundraising Gala on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 in Brooklyn, NY.

Thurow speaksabout the reporting he did for his book, "The First 1,000 Days: A Crucial Time for Mothers and Children–and the World", published in May 2016. The book follows four mothers and their babies in India, Uganda, Guatemala and Chicago as they attempt to provide proper nutrition to ensure their children can survive and thrive.

Friends of Turkana is a registered non-profit organization headquartered in Brooklyn that supports projects focused on sustainable agriculture in Turkana, a remote, arid region in the northwest corner of Kenya.
