Join Pulitzer Center grantee Brett Walton for "Avoiding a Water Crisis: What's Next for Cape Town—and Beyond?"- a call-in event organized for Wednesday, April 18, 2018, by the Wilson Center's Environmental Change and Security Program. The event also features Eric Viala, director/chief of party for Winrock International, a nonprofit organization that focuses on sustaining natural resources.
According to the Wilson Center, Cape Town is the first major industrialized city to face such severe water shortages and serves as a harbinger of the increasingly complex environmental challenges that are likely to arise in other fast-growing cities as climate change intensifies.
Walton is a reporter for Circle of Blue, a nonprofit news agency that reports on fresh water and its connection to food, energy, politics, business, health, and environment. The Society of Environmental Journalists named his five-part series on septic system failures in the United States as Best Explanatory Reporting in its 2016 awards contest.
