Pulitzer Center-supported journalist Beenish Ahmed is the lead speaker on Tuesday, March 31, at Kent State University's Global Communication Issues Forum, which this year focuses on "Women and Children in Crisis." The Forum, organized by the University's School of Communication Studies, examines the consequences when women and girls are impoverished, denied an education, and become victims of domestic violence.

Ahmed's reporting for the Pulitzer Center includes a focus on education of women and girls in Pakistan.

Ahmed covers international issues more broadly as well. She has been a Kroc Fellow at National Public Radio through which she reported for its nationally-syndicated flagship shows as well WBUR, Boston’s NPR station. Her stories have since aired on PRI’s The World, Deutsche Welle, Radio France Internationale, and Monocle 24. Her written work has been featured in The Atlantic, VICE, Foreign Policy, The Daily Beast, The American Prospect, GlobalPost, Boston Review, Himal Southasia, Medium and The Huffington Post. Ahmed provides frequent analysis on breaking events to Sky News. She also is a reporter for ThinkProgress,

Each Global Communication Issues Forum, an ongoing series sponsored by Kent State University's School of Communication Studies, addresses the global effect of a topic and how media communicate their coverage to share with a world-wide audience, said Paul Haridakis, director of the School of Communication Studies.

Ahmed's participation in the Forum is part of her two-day visit to Kent State University through the University's Campus Consortium partnership with the Pulitzer Center. The Campus Consortium initiative, which includes more than 20 colleges and universities, is a core component of the Pulitzer Center’s effort to create awareness campaigns around global systemic issues that affect us all.

The forum is free and open to the public.
