Tuesday, November 13, 2012 - 06:00pm EST to Wednesday, November 14, 2012 - 07:30pm EST (GMT -0500)

Through its Campus Consortium initiative, the Pulitzer Center and Saint Mary's University of Minnesota tackle a difficult issue: examining America's persistent achievement gap and considering solutions through a global lens. The dialogue series features Pulitzer Center Managing Director Nathalie Applewhite along with community educators and university representatives including:

  • Br. Edmund Siderewicz, assistant to Saint Mary's president for the First Generation Initiative (Winona event),
  • Dr. Christopher Clarke, vice principal for academic affairs at the Shortwood Teachers College (Twin Cities event),
  • Dr. Samuel Yigzaw, founder and administrator of the Higher Grounds Academy (Winona event), and
  • Dr. Efe Agbamu, executive director for English language learners at Saint Paul Public Schools (Winona event).

Discussion moderated by Fred de Sam Lazaro, director of the Untold-Stories Project at Saint Mary's University and a long-time journalist partner with the Pulitzer Center. He also has served with PBS NewsHour since 1985 and has reported from more than 30 countries, focusing on stories that are under-reported in the mainstream U.S. media.
