Award-winning Texas Tribune health reporter Marissa Evans speaks at Howard University on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, with a focus on her Pulitzer Center-supported reporting project, What Texas Can Learn from Poland on Maternal Mortality.
Texas is searching for ways to curb the alarming number of women dying less than a year after their pregnancies. Evans reports that Poland, a conservative, anti-abortion, religious country may have solutions. Poland draws similarities to Texas because of its large population, geographic diversity, conservative government, heavy religious influence and contentious debates over access to abortion, so thinking more globally could save mothers in Texas.
Her talk is part of a two-day visit to this Campus Consortium partner, where she also will visit classes and meet more informally with students and faculty while on campus.
