Science Magazine staff writer Jon Cohen will speak at the University of Missouri on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, as part of the Smith/Patterson Science Journalism Fellowship and Lecture Series, the Pulitzer Center Campus Consortium partnership with the University.
Cohen traveled to China for his Pulitzer Center-supported project, "The Chinese CRISPR Revolution." His stories for Science Magazine explore the growing popularity of genome editing tools in improving crops and medicine, while also investigating ethical, regulatory, and legal issues associated with the tools.
Cohen's specialties include coverage of biomedicine, HIV/AIDS, immunology, vaccines, genetics, and global health. His reporting has appeared in publications including The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Smithsonian, Outside, and Slate.
At 2:30 p.m. following the discussion with Cohen, students are invited to attend an informational session on the Pulitzer Center reporting fellows program. Outreach Coordinator Holly Piepenburg will lead the session, which will occur in room 100A, Reynolds Journalism Institute on the MU campus.
