Pulitzer Center grantee Eli Kintisch visits Guilford College on Monday, April 4, 2016, for the first stop in his weeklong visit to Triad Campus Consortium partners, which also include Wake Forest University and High Point University.
Kintisch speaks to students in journalism and environmental studies classes on campus, drawing from his reporting on how the thawing soil in the Arctic is creating new geologic hazards, such as mysterious slow-motion landslides that are threatening highways in Alaska and the geological landscape in Siberia.
The fate of thawing Arctic soils may have profound impacts far from the North Pole, as more than a trillion tons of carbon are locked in frozen permafrost there. For his Pulitzer Center-supported reporting project, "Thawing Arctic Soils: A Tenuous Present and a Dangerous Future," Kintisch traveled to Cherskiy, Russia, and Barrow, Alaska, to investigate.
