Joanne Silberner Explores Cancer in the Developing World During SDSU Visit

Join Pulitzer Center grantee Joanne Silberner on Thursday, April 24 for a conversation focused on her award-winning project "Cancer in the Developing World: The Economics of a Disease." Silberner's talk is part of her two-day visit to South Dakota State University to share her experiences reporting on non-communicable disease in the global south.

Worldwide, more people die from cancer than from HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria combined. Yet, until recently, cancer was virtually ignored by global health organizations working to improve conditions in low-income countries. Multimedia journalist Silberner documents this "silent killer" using compelling data visualization tools, to show cancer's truly global scale.

This event is presented by the Fillbrandt Forum of the SDSU Department of Journalism and Mass Communication in cooperation with the South Dakota World Affairs Council, SDSU Academic Affairs, and the Pulitzer Center.
