Pulitzer Center journalist grantee Jon Cohen will speak at Southern Illinois University Carbondale on Thursday November 14, 2019, about his travels to China and what he found as part of his reporting project, "The Chinese CRISPR Revolution."

Cohen is a senior correspondent at Science Magazine. The stories he wrote as part of his project explore the growing popularity of genome editing tools in improving crops and medicine while also investigating ethical, regulatory, and legal issues.

While at SIU Carbondale, Cohen also will discuss his experiences reporting on HIV and AIDS, global health and bioterrorism, as well as his journalism career more broadly.

Pulitzer Center outreach coordinator Holly Piepenburg joins Cohen for the visit and leads an information session about reporting fellowship opportunities for students. Piepenburg received a reporting fellowship when she was a student at SIU Carbondale, one of the oldest Pulitzer Center Campus Consortium partners.
