On Monday, October 24, 2016 at the University of Pennsylvania, journalists from around the globe will contribute to a panel discussion of global land rights, including Tom Burgis of The Financial Times, Claire Provost, a Guardian contributor, Steve Sapienza from the Pulitzer Center, and Chris Arsenault of Thomson Reuters Foundation/PLACE.
Topics of discussion range from Saudi Star Agricultural Development’s investment in farmland in Ethiopia, privatized and ceded land in India, the impact of Indian and Chinese investment in Myanmar, and the impact of Muammar Gaddafi’s deal to lease 100,000 hectares of Mali’s farmland.
Moderating the panel is Nick Ashburn, director for Emerging Market Strategies at the Wharton Social Impact Initiative at the University of Pennsylvania, and co-host of “Dollars and Change” on SiriusXM.
The panel is organized as part of the Campus Consortium partnership between the Pulitzer Center and the University of Pennsylvania, where the event co-sponors are the South Asia Center, Middle East Center and Center for Africana Studies.
