My Generation: Youth and Change in the Gulf

Join Pulitzer Center grantee, and award-winning journalist, Caryle Murphy, for a panel discussion on the changing political, social, and economic landscape facing the Gulf's rising generation, especially women.

Caryle Murphy, a former reporter for The Washington Post, is an independent journalist based in Washington, DC. After leaving the Post in 2006, she spent three years in Saudi Arabia, where she worked as a freelance journalist reporting for GlobalPost, the Christian Science Monitor and the National in Abu Dhabi. From 2011-2012 she was a scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, where she researched and wrote her latest book, "A Kingdom's Future: Saudi Arabia Through the Eyes of its Twentysomethings" (2013). She was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting and the George Polk Award for Foreign Reporting for her coverage of of Iraqi-occupied Kuwait and the 1990-91 Gulf War.

The Pulitzer Center is a non-profit journalism organization based in Washington DC dedicated to promoting in-depth engagement with global affairs through its sponsorship of quality international journalism across all media platforms and an innovative program of outreach and education.

This community event is party of a four-day visit to Northwestern University in Qatar from February 2-February 5 by Murphy, who will be joined by Pulitzer Center managing director Nathalie Applewhite. The visit will also include a series of classroom visits focused on the practice of journalism, multimedia reporting, and trends in reporting.
