Pulitzer Center Executive Director Jon Sawyer moderates a conversation with Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Tawakkol Karman on Friday, May 29, at the 2015 NAFSA: Association of International Educators Annual Conference & Expo, where the theme this year is New Horizons in International Education.

Karman received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2011, at the time becoming the first Yemeni, the first Arab woman, and the second Muslim woman to win a Nobel Peace Prize. She advocates for women's safety and women’s rights in her native Yemen, and is one of the youngest Nobel Peace Prize laureates.

"Bold and outspoken, Karman has been imprisoned for her pro-democracy, pro-human rights protests. She is a human rights activist, journalist, politician, and founder of Women Journalists Without Chains, as well as a mother of three," according to her biography on the NAFSA conference website. "Known as the “mother of the revolution” and 'the iron woman' amongst Yemen’s youth movement, Karman continues to support female journalists and rally Yemenis against government corruption and injustice. Fiercely committed, she spends the majority of her time in a tent in Change Square, where she continues her peaceful protests for justice and freedom."

The NAFSA conference runs May 24-29 in Boston, Massachusetts. Karman delivers the Friday, May 29, plenary address, and Sawyer moderates the conversation and Q&A session after her address.
