National Press Club Panel on International Reporting Grants

The National Press Club will host a panel discussion on Thursday Sept. 29 about international reporting grants and how to win them.

The event, sponsored by the International Correspondents and Freelancers committees, will take place from 6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Nathalie Applewhite, managing director at the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting

Melody Schreiber, program manager at the International Reporting Project

Elisa Tinsley, deputy vice president for programs at the International Center for Journalists

Sandy Bergo, executive director, Fund for Investigative Journalism

Rachel Oswald, moderator and co-chair of the International Correspondents Committee

The discussion will cover such topics as:
•the benefits of participating in a group reporting project vs a solo trip
•the increasing prevalence of issue-specific reporting grants
•what makes for a successful grant application
•advice and resources for organizing a solo-reporting trip including finding a fixer/translator and keeping health/safety concerns in mind
•what to do when the unexpected happens on your trip
