Join Pulitzer Center grantee Jake Naughton for his exhibit at New York City's Photoville 2017 showcasing his "Dual Shadows" project. The series is part of Naughton's upcoming project for the Pulitzer Center, "An Uneasy Stasis for LGBT Ugandans."

"Dual Shadows" looks at East Africa's LGBTQ community as they apply for asylum in the West. As they wait for resettlement, they seek refuge in Kenya but must navigate the country's hostile environment towards LGBTQ individuals.

Photoville is New York City's largest annual photographic event, showcasing over 500 visuals artists each year. Photoville opens Wednesday, September 13, 2017, and runs through Sunday, September 24, 2017, though Photoville "takes a break" between Monday, September 18 – Wednesday, September 20. The "Dual Shadows" exhibit is free and open to the public from 4 pm - 10 pm, September 13-17 and 21-24.

This year, the festival will convert over 55 shipping containers into a modular galleries to showcase over 75 exhbits. In addition to the containers, the festival will have workshops, panel discussions, talks, gear demonstrations, a beer garden, and nighttime film screenings—all free to the public.

Two other Pulitzer Center-supported projects also will be at the festival: "Finding Home," a container exhibit featuring work from the TIME team, Lynsey Addario, Aryn Baker, and Francesca Trianni and "Widowhood," an outdoor exhibit featuring the work of Amy Toensing. See our event listing for more information on these Photoville exhibits.
