Pulitzer Center grantees Alice Su and Nick Street discuss the challenges of covering religions during the 2017 American Academy of Religion Annual Meeting in Boston, MA. Jon Sawyer, Pulitzer Center executive director, joined the journalists at the conference.
On Saturday, November 18, Ayesha S. Chaudhry from the University of British Columbia leads the discussion for the panel, "Journalists Discuss the Challenges of Covering Religions." In addition to Su and Street, participants include Ruth Graham (Slate), Ariel Sabar (The Atlantic) and Rachel Zoll (Associated Press). Street is also a senior writer at the Center for Religion and Civic Culture at the University of Southern California
On Monday, November 20, Su takes part in a plenary session titled, "Forcibly Displaced Syrians and Iraqis: What to Know about the Crisis and What You as a Religion Scholar Can Do." The session also features Sarah Tobin (Christian Michelsen Institute of Bergen, Norway), Mark Juergensmeyer (University of California, Santa Barbara), Amir Hussain (Loyola Marymount University) and Diane L. Moore (Harvard University).
