The University of Rhode Island’s Metcalf Institute for Marine & Environmental Reporting, in partnership with the Woodrow Wilson Center and the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, invites reporters to attend one of two Climate Change Seminars for Journalists April 23 to 25 in Washington, D.C.
The free seminars are organized with the goal of helping journalists better understand of the science behind climate change and provide them with expert contacts for potential news coverage of climate change impacts and adaptation efforts. In addition to scientists, the seminars include as panelists and session leaders reporters who have covered the issue locally and globally in hopes of helping other journalists generate story ideas, expand their coverage and put their findings into a broader context.
Both seminars take place at the Woodrow Wilson Center, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, D.C.
Seminar 1: Climate Policy and Economics for Political and Business Reporters
April 23: Seminar designed for political and business reporters with a focus on the political, economic, and security policy issues related to climate change. Speakers will discuss regional examples from the Chesapeake Bay as well as national and international news hooks.

Seminar 2: Climate Change Impacts in Marine & Coastal Environments
April 24-25: Seminar designed for all journalists who desire to improve their coverage of climate change. The program is designed to provide a foundational understanding of the ways that climate change will affect - and is already affecting - marine and coastal ecosystems and communities. As with the seminar on April 23, speakers will discuss regional examples as well as national and international news hooks. Registration details.
