"Seeds of Hope," a documentary from award-winning filmmaker and Pulitzer Center grantee Fiona Lloyd-Davies, will be screened on Tuesday, June 10 at the Summit Fringe, a series of public events that run alongside the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict. The Global Summit brings together governments, NGOs and legal, military and judicial practitioners to focus on this topic. The summit is hosted by Rt. Hon. William Hague, British Foreign Secretary, and Angelina Jolie, UNHCR Special Envoy.
The "Seeds of Hope" screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Lloyd-Davies, moderated by Anneke Von Woudenberg, advocacy director for Africa at Human Rights Watch and its former senior researcher for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
"Seeds of Hope" is a product of Lloyd-Davies' Pulitzer Center-supported project, "Congo: Consequences of a Conflict with No End," and tells the story of Masika Katsuva, a rape survivor in Eastern Congo, who risks her life every day to provide women and children who have suffered physical or sexual assault with a refuge. Together the women help each other heal and build a community sowing seeds of hope.
The Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict takes place June 10-12 at ExCel London and will be the largest meeting held on the subject with a view to creating irreversible momentum against sexual violence in conflict and practical action that impacts those on the ground.
