Photographer Sim Chi Yin displays her "Dying to Breathe" exhibit for a month in fall 2016 at Objectifs Centre for Photography and Film in Singapore. Her exhibit is in the "Women In Photography" group show jointly presented by Magnum Foundation and Objectifs Centre for Photography and Film.

Chi Yin, a member of VII Photo Agency, is a multiple Pulitzer Center grantee. Her award-winning Pulitzer Center-supported project "China: Dying to Breathe" explores the life of former Chinese gold miner He Quangui and his struggle with silicosis. Chi Yin spent four years documenting He's life and produced the short film "Dying to Breathe" with Tan Siok Siok.

He contracted silicosis, an irreversible but preventable respiratory illness caused by inhaling silica dust, while working in small, unregulated mines in Henan Province in central China. An estimated 6 million Chinese miners suffer from the debilitating disease pneumoconiosis—of which silicosis is one form. Pneumoconiosis is China's top occupational disease, killing three times as many miners as mining accidents do each year.

The annual Women in Film & Photography Showcase at Objectifs is a tribute to the artists, photographers and filmmakers who have created works that tell stories with impact, break boundaries and inspire us.
