Talks @ Pulitzer: The Atlas of Pentecostalism With Bregtje van der Haak

Wednesday, February 26, 2014 - 05:30pm to 08:00pm EST (GMT -0500)

Each day around the world, an estimated 35,000 people join a Pentecostal church. Of the world's 2 billion Christians, a quarter are now Pentecostals—up from just 6 percent in 1980. Join us for a talks@pulitzer on Wednesday, February 26, when Bregtje van der Haak discusses her examination of the world's fastest growing religion through her Pulitzer Center reporting project, the "Atlas of Pentecostalism."

Van der Haak, a documentary filmmaker and journalist, undertook the project with Richard Vijgen, who investigates new strategies to find the big stories in big data through research and design. The reporting project incorporates a dynamic and unique online database that maps this expanding global religion as it evolves by using global crowd-sourcing, big data, cinematography, interviews, academic collaborations and an immersive video documentary on a Pentecostal church in Nigeria that routinely draws congregations of half a million people.

Light reception at 6:30 pm followed by remarks at 7 pm.
