Iraq owns the world’s fifth largest reserves, sitting on more than 140 billion barrels of oil. The Bush Administration promised Iraqi Kurdistan prosperity and development after Iraq was invaded in 2003 but over a decade later, those promises have been shattered. So how did things go so wrong?

On Tuesday, March 20, 2018, please join us for a Talks @ Pulitzer, journalist Erin Banco discusses her first book, Pipe Dreams: The Plundering of Iraq’s Oil Wealth, in which she investigates the corruption and mismanagement that has lead to Iraq and Kurdistan's financial drainage.

Banco is an investigative reporter with The Intercept covering the intersection of money and government. She is a former fellow at The New York Times and Middle East correspondent for International Business Times. Previously she was an outreach and production specialist at the Pulitzer Center.
