Donate NowJoin us for a Talks @ Pulitzer on Thursday, November 1, 2018, as award-winning science journalist and Pulitzer Center grantee Rachel Nuwer speaks about her investigative reporting project, The World Without Wildlife. Nuwer's recently released book, Poached: Inside the Dark World of Wildlife Trafficking, has taken her across a dozen countries and into the underground world of global wildlife trafficking.
Illegal wildlife trade now ranks among the largest contraband industries in the world, yet compared to drug, arms or human trafficking, the wildlife crisis has received scant international attention and action. Instead, it is left up to passionate individuals fighting on the ground to try to ensure many of the world’s most beloved species are still around for future generations.
Nuwer explores the forces currently driving demand for animals and their parts, the toll that demand is extracting on species across the planet, and the conservationists, rangers and activists who believe it is not too late to stop the impending extinctions. Poached is the story of those who believe this is a battle that can be won, that elephants, tigers, rhinos, pangolins and more are not beyond salvation.
A light reception begins at 5:30 pm, and the talk starts at 6:00 pm.
