Join us on Wednesday, January 8, for our first 2014 talks @ pulitzer. The evening will feature Robin Hammond, a photojournalist originally from New Zealand who has documented issues of human rights and development around the world, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. His Pulitzer Center-supported project in Sierra Leone and Liberia is a part of his broader project titled "Condemned," which examines the situation for mentally ill Africans who are abandoned by governments, forgotten by the aid community, and locked away to live behind prison bars.
Hammond has won numerous awards for his work, including four Amnesty International awards for human rights journalism and the Carmignac Gestion Photojournalism Award, which allowed him to document human rights issues and poverty in Zimbabwe for four months. National Geographic published his work from Zimbabwe in May 2013, and Time magazine selected his book from the project as one of the best photojournalism books of 2013.
Hammond has been a part of the photo agency Panos Pictures since 2007. After living in Japan, the United Kingdom and South Africa, Hammond currently resides in France. He contributes to many international newspapers and magazines including National Geographic, Time, The Sunday Times Magazine, The New York Times, and Polka Magazine.
