Unpredictable Past: History and Putin's Russia

Join us on November 2, 2017 for a discussion on how Russia’s past informs its future. In a joint Pulitzer Center-Institute of Current World Affairs (ICWA) event, leading experts will trace Russia’s history up to Vladimir Putin, noting the unexpected cultural and political developments along the way. The talk will be from 6:30-8:00pm at the Carnegie Endowment Building.

Our panel of Russia experts includes:

• Gregory Feifer, interim executive director of ICWA; formerly an NPR Moscow correspondent and an ICWA fellow specializing in Russia
• Marvin Kalb, senior advisor to the Pulitzer Center and senior fellow at the Brookings Institute; formerly a Moscow-based diplomatic attaché and CBS News' Moscow Bureau chief
• Nina Khrushcheva, great-granddaughter of Soviet leader Nikita Krushcev, professor of International Affairs at The New School and a senior fellow at the World Policy Institute
• Andrew Weiss, oversees research on Russia and Eurasia for the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in both Washington and Moscow

The event marks the centenary year of the 1917 Russian Revolution, which ousted the Tsarist autocracy and laid the foundation for the Soviet Union’s rise.
