Join Pulitzer Center Grantees Fred de Sam Lazaro, Michael Holtz, and Ann Hermes for a discussion of their reporting on child labor in Nepal and India. This talk will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23rd at the Mary Baker Eddy Library in Boston, which has organized the event.
In their reporting for PBS NewsHour and the Christian Science Monitor, Holtz, Hermes, and de Sam Lazaro dug deeply into the trafficking of child labor in South Asia. What they’ve found reveals the challenges—and the opportunities—in combating this form of modern slavery, which binds 18.3 million people in India alone.
In their discussion on the 23rd, these Pulitzer Center grantees will discuss their experiences covering this troubling issue, and evidence they have seen for hope in the fight against bonded labor. They will also be joined by Homraj Acharya, Country Director for the Global Fairness Initiative and Better Brick Nepal, and Elizabeth Donger, Research Associate at the Harvard FXB Center for Health and Human Rights, and author of a recent report on child labor.
