Andrea Filzen

Andrea Filzen, a senior participant in the 2012-2013 Sharp seminar at the College of William & Mary, will graduate with a sociology degree and a minor in religious studies. She is passionate about traveling for volunteer work and has volunteered on three different organic farms. She has also volunteered in nursing homes, juvenile detention centers, soup kitchens, and churches. She is currently preparing for a volunteer trip to Honduras to help build elementary schools and teach English. She has tutored in the past and volunteers as an English language tutor with CPALs, and at an English language tutoring class for Williamsburg immigrants.

She is also involved in LASU, the Latin American Student Union, as historian, and participated in a trip to the border of Mexico and Arizona in order to share her team’s trip experiences for the sake of immigration policy reform. In addition to her involvement with the Latino community, she works with CCM, Catholic Campus Ministry, as a campus presence helper and with ACS, the African Culture Society. She enjoys studying at the Daily Grind and munching on their selection of local, organic goods. Hanging out at the Meridian provides an awesome musical outlet and she spends time at the Outdoors Club, biking, jogging down DoG St, and climbing the REC Center’s rock wall, an accessible aerobic outlet. She hopes to continue her love for travel, culture, and volunteer work with the Peace Corps post-graduation.
