Augustine Kasambule

Augustine Kasambule is the Rainforest Journalism Fund Congo Basin Regional Coordinator at the Pulitzer Center. First point of contact with journalists, she leads the review process for funding candidates for the Rainforest Journalism Fund, in collaboration with the Pulitzer Center team and the advisory committee.  

Before joining the Rainforest Journalism Fund, Augustine worked as a communication officer in international organizations such as the International and Education Fund, Greenpeace Africa, World Fund for Nature and Wildlife Conservation Society.

Co-founder of the Réseau de Communicateurs pour l'Environnement in DR Congo and former journalist and presenter of environmental and socio-cultural programmes on Antenne A television, she has also produced documentaries on the environment. 

Holding a bachelor’s degree in biology and a member of environmental civil society, Augustine had also a teaching career. 

In her professional career, she has worked with journalists, media organizations, civil society, government institutions, national and international non-governmental organizations as well as the local communities involved in the forest sector. 

Aware of the climate change negative effects on the human life quality and the role that the media plays in raising public awareness, she decided to focus on environment. 

Her motto: ‘‘an objective reporting boosts self-esteem and prevents us from being discredited by the corporation and the public."

Augustine est la Coordinatrice Régionale du Rainforest Journalism Fund pour le Bassin du Congo au Centre Pulitzer. Premier point de contact avec les journalistes, elle conduit le processus de sélection des candidats au financement du Rainforest Journalism Fund , en collaboration avec l’équipe du Centre Pulitzer et le comité consultatif.  

Avant de rejoindre le Rainforest Journalism Fund, Augustine a tour à tour été Chargée de communication dans les organisations internationales telles qu’International and Education Fund, Greenpeace Africa, World Fund for Nature and Wildlife Conservation Society.

Co-fondatrice du Réseau de Communicateurs pour l'Environnement en RD Congo et ancienne journaliste-présentatrice des émissions environnementales et socioculturelles à la télévision Antenne A, elle a aussi produit des documentaires sur l'environnement. 

Licenciée en biologiste et membre de la société civile environnementale Congolaise, Augustine a également fait une carrière enseignante. 

Dans son parcours, elle a travaillé avec les journalistes, les organes de presse, la société civile, les institutions étatiques, les organisations non gouvernementales nationales et internationales ainsi les communautés locales impliquées dans le secteur forestier. 

Consciente d’une part des effets néfastes du changement climatique sur la qualité de la vie humaine et de l’autre, du rôle ô combien louable des médias dans la sensibilisation du public à la prise de conscience, elle a fait de l’environnement son cheval de bataille. 

Son maître mot : l’objectivité dans le reportage renforce l’estime de soi et nous épargne d’être décrédibilisé par la corporation et par le public.
