Barry is returning for his second trip to Kenya to finish a documentary he began shooting last year. He’s been following the journey of two brothers from Vanderbilt University who’ve been raising money to build a clinic back home in their village since the death of their parents. He began work on the documentary as a fellow at the International Reporting Project at Johns Hopkins University-SAIS in Washington, D.C. During his career as a local television reporter in Nashville, he won eight regional Emmys, the Edward R. Murrow Award, and was twice named Best Writer in Tennessee by the Associated Press. His television news stories from Kenya were also recently awarded an Emmy for Best Human Interest Series. Filming on his documentary, Hope for Lwala, is nearing completion and will begin post-production in May.
