Blanca Begert is a Master of Environmental Science '20 student at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. As a researcher, writer, and multimedia producer, her work focuses on forest management and policy, indigenous rights, land-use conflict, climate change, and environmental justice issues in the US and Latin America. Most recently, Blanca worked with the Center for International Forestry Research in Peru, researching the representation of local priorities in forest management, and the challenges indigenous communities face after receiving land title in Amazonia. Previously, she was a photographer and video producer at Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and a video producer with Essence Magazine. She also worked in plant conservation and horticulture at the National Tropical Botanical Garden. Blanca grew up in Miami, FL and holds in a B.A. in Comparative Literature from Brown University.
