Eléonore "Léo" Hamelin is a journalist and filmmaker based in New York who creates immersive and intimate documentaries. She currently creates short docs for Brut America, and was previously at Blue Chalk Media, where she created cinematic web docs internationally. Hamelin directed Quiet No More: The Struggle of Reverend Sharon Risher, a deeply personal story of grief and forgiveness that was published in The New Yorker and wasa an official selection at DOC NYC 2020.

She was recently awarded a European Journalism Centre grant for Innovation in Development Reporting to report on gender equality in Rwanda, in collaboration with TIME, Libération, La Stampa, Marie Claire, and El País. As a recipient of the 2018 Adelante Fellowship from the International Women Media Foundation (IWMF), she reported from the U.S.-Mexico border, creating an illustrated essay about life at the border and visual work for the BBC, BuzzFeed, and the Tampa Bay Times. She also teaches video journalism at Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism, where she received a master's in 2012 and worked as a Digital Media Fellow in 2013. She is French and grew up in Brazil, Thailand, and Mexico.
