Dr. Ervin Dyer is a writer, editor and sociologist. His work focuses on African diaspora and African-American life and culture.

He is co-founder of ''Feel Like Going On," a collective of Pittsburgh photographers that captures the positive, everyday life in Western Pennsylvania’s Black communities.

He is a former president of the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation. With the federation, in 2017, he created "American Heroes: The Homewood Project" to celebrate the contributions of grassroots male leadership in the Homewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Dyer is the senior editor at Pitt Magazine at the University of Pittsburgh and a former reporter with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, where he covered faith, politics, and the cultural life of the African American community.

He is an award-winning journalist whose storytelling has carried him around the globe to report on issues of health, religion, and culture in Ghana, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Haiti, Japan, China, and Cuba.
