Leslie Roberts

Leslie Roberts is a deputy news editor and writer at the weekly magazine Science. At Science, she oversees the global health team of award-winning journalists, who write about such issues as HIV/AIDS, malaria, pandemic and emerging infectious diseases, biodefense, and development policy. She has written extensively on infectious diseases, including polio, malaria, meningitis, and neglected tropical diseases. Roberts has received numerous awards for her work, including, most recently, two awards for an article called “The Art of Eradicating Polio,” which chronicles the quest of the health minister of Nigeria to drive the poliovirus from his country.

Before her current position at Science, Roberts covered human genetics and the Human Genome Project for the magazine. Earlier jobs included editor-in chief at the World Resources Institute, where she and her team studied and wrote on environment, development, and global health, and editor–in-chief at Issues in Science and Technology, the policy journal of the National Academy of Sciences. She has written extensively for various national magazines.
